Standard First Aid Content

Standard First Aid is a WSIB approved training course. Standard First Aid is specified in Regulation 1101 for employers with more than five workers on a shift. Many colleges and universities require this level of training for dental, medical, nursing and allied health professions. Standard First Aid is also required to apply for police and fire services.

Our Standard First Aid course delves into many additional topics not covered in the Emergency First Aid program. A major consideration in every injury or serious illness is the effects of shock. Ultimately, shock is what kills. Students will learn to perform a Secondary Survey to assess and record patient history and vital signs. Extensive use of scenarios, including theatrical blood and injuries are an exciting way to learn. Using these scenarios the student learns the importance of working with others as a First Aid Team.

Depending on the needs of the group, we can also include electives such as bone and joint injuries, pelvic and chest injuries, poisons and environmental injuries (heat and cold). Corporate training also includes Emergency Medical Response Planning and Biohazard Containment/Cleanup.

Students will learn to control serious bleeding and bandage wounds. Using the practical skills from this course students will be able to perform a Primary Survey checking for and treating life threatening conditions such as choking and clearing the obstructed airway. Sudden Cardiac Arrest is a serious life threat. Our CPR and Automated External Defibrillation program, using Preston Manikins, prepares the student to deliver High Quality CPR. Many students are concerned about the legal issues of providing first aid. We explain the Good Samaritan Act which protect the rescuer of legal action. We cover emergency medical situations such as heart attack, angina, stroke, asthma, epilepsy and allergic reactions. Many other topics including fainting, animal bites, burns and spinal cord injuries.

Emergmart takes rescuer safety very seriously. We discuss Emergency Scene Management and biohazard protection strategies.

The Standard First Aid Course includes extensive realistic scenarios with theatrical blood and injuries.
