Most workplaces have a hodgepodge of safety signs. These signs, almost always, were purchased individually to fill a specific need at the time. As a result, there isn’t a uniform plan to deliver safety messages that are quickly understood and encourage actions that will prevent injury and death.

The word DANGER or RESTRICTED on a red background means that failing to heed the message of this sign will probably result in death or serious injury.
The word WARNING on an orange background means that failing to the the message of this sign will possibly result in death or serious injury.
The word CAUTION on a yellow background means that falling to heed the message of this sign may result in a moderate injury.
The word SAFETY on a green background is a general safety message such as First Aid Kit Located Here or Earplugs required.
The word NOTICE on a blue background is any other message, such as Report To The Office or NO Smoking.
